Definitely Worth Seeing: 26-year-od Dudamel takes on the New York Philharmonic

The musical genius of the 26-year-old Gustavo Dudamel, the new guest conductor of the New York Philharmonic, is something that apparently needs to be seen to be believed.

Dudamel conducts with ease and professionalism some of the best in business. Many of the members of the New York Philharmonic have been performing for decades, yet they apparently respond respectfully and eagerly to the young conductor. Apparently, there is substance behind the hype.

What a show this must be!

It is interesting how the conductor's age is romanticized. True, he is 26, but hopefully there are other things to be excited about him, ie, his conductor abilities, perhaps?

Isn't this performative?! The black t-shirt, the Bohemian hair..... Hollywood is not the only place that uses cultural stereotype!

The more I read about this, the more convinced I am that the hype is better than the show. But then the 'text' of the Met is so much bigger than just the musical performances themselves....
