So, why is it that the Catholic Church does not allow priests to marry? Didn't they used to be allowed to marry before but then the rule had to change so that land stayed with the church as opposed to their families?
This priest is aesthetically appealing and I'm sure his looks have something to do with the media attention.

I also think that the reason why this guy gets so much pres is because he is very good-looking.

Since the vows are voluntary, the point of the matter isn't really whether or not the Catholic Church should have celibacy in the priesthood. They do, and Alberto broke his vows, thus his suspension is warranted.

I kind of agree with Donohue from the first clip that if priests were allowed to marry, you would see scandals in the form of infidelity instead of or in addition to the current problems of non-celibacy and pedophilia. I guess to me celibacy seems a harder mark to hit than fidelity, however, so maybe it would be prudent to change over.

Artificial rules breeds artificial behavior. I agree with Sra's take.

I also think that rules are rules. When these people enter an agreement within a structure they agree to keep their end of the bargain. A deviation from the rule is just that. I also don't think that just because this priest deviated heterosexually he should be given more leniency.
Granted, I don't think it makes much sense that priests not marry especially since they're not getting land and passing it down their progeny.
Again, when church and cannon mingle problematically, crises are born.

Repressing the body has never seemed a feasibly and/or healthy thing to me. Moderation, perhaps?

aren't priests allowed to be married, as long as they're married before they become a priest?
