Rachel Maddow is correcting the factual record from the conversation she had with Pat Buchanan on her show a few days ago about Judge Sotomayor, Affirmative Action, and Sotomayor's record of academic writing.
The thing is this is such a multilayered issue that it can't be reduced to a a is right but b is wrong. It's too complex a history and too difficult a cultural argument. But I have to agree with the other person the last minute was quite a nice piece of TV.
The thing is though, it's easier to set the record straight if it's your show. Granted Buchanan ran the mouth when he kept saying 100% left and right. He was only expressing an opinion, however. I'm sure we all make mistakes on an hourly basis....
When one has one's own show and pretty wide platform, it's pretty easy to look and sound victorious. I didn't like this bit, actually. She came across as a bit of a bully. Pat was a guest on her show. He expressed his opinion the way guests do.....

The last minute when she reads Pat's proposal to Nixon to create something akin to AA was priceless.

I mean, I get her point and I concur with much of what she's saying. It's just a problem of tone for me....
