What Does the Veep Do?

I just turned on the news and learned from an energetic Chris Matthews from MSNBC's Hardball that Sarah Palin got the job description of the vice president wrong when answering a question by a third grader. Here is the clip:

P.S.
Thanks to Paul's astute point, I was reminded of an earlier blog entry of mine regarding Argentina's president, de Kirchner. What do you think of the red coat here?

Yeah, but what DOES the VP do? I seem to remember the office does have a leading role in the senate, but maybe that's only when the regular senate leader is out or something. Hey, I'm not particularly well versed in the roles of government. But I guess she really has no excuse for not knowing eh?

Per Wiki, "As designated by the Constitution of the United States, the vice president also serves as the President of the Senate, and may break tie votes in that chamber.[2] He or she may be assigned additional duties by the president but, as the Constitution assigns no executive powers to the vice president, in performing such duties he or she acts only as an agent of the president."
Most political commentators today noted that the Veep may vote if there is a tie in the senate but s/he is not actually in charge of the senate. And therein lies the prob with the comment.

Hot jacket. Not-so-hot answer.
Did you hear on the news last night that they've spent something like 150 G-s on her elect. wardrobe...?

re: the wardrobe....
she seems to be copying de Kirchner's sexy clothing. same as the average small-town or agrarian REAL American might wear ;(

in this clip it's almost dominatrix garb.

i thought the vice-president has no power or voice in the senate except to break ties.
