Bea Arthur

Bea Arthur passed this weekend.
She was a comedy pro and her work on such shows as Maude and Golden Girls was instrumental in translating feminism into the daily vernacular.

Dorothy of the Golden Girls will be missed. Tip of the hat to an artist whose work touched and continues to touch people cross-generationally.

A clip from the Golden Girls:

Kathleen Hanna and Karen O?

Lately I have been thinking about the music of Le Tigre and Bikini Kill. Naturally, I had to think of Kathleen Hanna, too. This morning it dawned on me that the reason why I am being reminded of Kathleen Hanna's music is because of The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs' new album It's Blitz. For some reason Karen O makes me think of Kathleen Hanna. And it's not because they're that similar in terms of their musical influences or individual performance styles. Their respective music makes me, as the listener, think about similar things, hence the 'similarity' I suppose.

So, just what kind of show would I love to see happen? Well, I'd love to see Karen O of The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs perform with Kathleen Hanna. That would be one heck of an experience.
